Steve berlin
Steve Berlin is a multi-Grammy-winning producer, arranger, session musician, and saxophonist whose fingerprints are all over some of the most iconic recordings of the past few decades. Best known for his run with Los Lobos, Steve’s musical journey began in Philadelphia and took root in the heart of Southern California’s eclectic music scene.
He first made waves with The Blasters, but it was his collaboration on Los Lobos’ breakout EP …And a Time to Dance that marked a turning point—both for the band and for Steve, who officially joined their ranks in 1984. Since then, he’s helped shape their adventurous, genre-bending sound while also lending his talents far and wide.
Steve’s credits span a wildly diverse list of artists, from Faith No More and The Tragically Hip to Rickie Lee Jones, Greensky Bluegrass, Raul Malo, and Ozomatli. His production work has earned him Grammy Awards with Buckwheat Zydeco, John Lee Hooker, Los Super Seven, and more. As a session player and arranger, he’s appeared on recordings by R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, The Replacements, Mavis Staples, Paul Simon (including Graceland), and artists from South America to South Africa.
Recently, Steve has been diving into film scoring, with original work on the indie feature A Little Family Drama and a reimagined soundtrack for the silent classic Breaking Home Ties. It’s a creative frontier he’s excited to keep exploring.
Now based in the Pacific Northwest, Steve stays busy not just with music, but also as an entrepreneur and board member, supporting ventures that put artists first. With decades of experience and a deep love for collaboration, he continues to create, shape, and elevate music wherever it takes him.
